STEEL WIRE WHEEL for Surface Renovation Tool (PSR201BL)

When corrosion or old coatings are too stubborn for abrasive wheels, the steel wire wheel gives you the extra bite. Densely packed steel bristles run across the full 100mm width, dig into pitted and uneven surfaces, and reach into textures and crevices that flat abrasives can miss.

The wire bristles don’t clog, so the wheel keeps working on thick rust, loose paint, scale and baked-on dirt. Unlike abrasive sheets, it removes contamination without wearing down in the same way, and it keeps cutting throughout its working life.

On wood, the steel wire wheel can also brush out soft grain to create a textured, weathered or “aged” effect. This is popular for rustic furniture, beams, cladding and feature boards.

The PSR201BL’s variable speed of 1500–3300 rpm keeps you in control. Use lower speeds for texturing wood and working near edges, and higher speeds for heavy rust and scale removal.

Tip:

Let the tips of the wire do the work. Pressing too hard bends the bristles over and makes the wheel less effective. For a smoother finish after removing heavy rust, follow up with the Winkko Poly Strip or interleaved flap wheel. On aluminium or stainless steel, use a non-woven or abrasive cloth wheel instead, because steel wire can leave particles that cause corrosion.

Safety:

Wire wheels can shed bristles during use. Always wear a full face shield or safety glasses, heavy-duty gloves, a dust mask and close-fitting protective clothing. Check the wheel before each use, and replace it if bristles are loose, badly bent or missing. Keep bystanders clear of the work area. When removing old paint, take care: it may contain lead, so use suitable dust extraction and respiratory protection.
