Key Performance Reality

• Appearance: It provides a very bright, “silver-leaf” or polished aluminum look. While it is highly reflective, it will not be a 100% perfect “true mirror” like factory-dipped chrome. The smoother the surface prep, the more reflective the final result will be.

• The Clear Coat “Trap”: A common mistake is applying a standard clear coat over this paint. Most clear coats will react with the metallic pigments, “dulling” the chrome effect and turning it into a flat silver. If you need protection, use a clear specifically designed for metallics or accept a slightly diminished shine.

• Durability: This is an “effects” paint, meaning it is less durable than standard automotive enamel. It is best suited for trim pieces rather than high-impact areas like wheels or door handles that see constant friction.

• Application Tips for Best Results

  1. Surface Prep is Everything: Any scratches or pits in the substrate will be magnified by the metallic finish. Sand the surface up to a very fine grit (1000+) and use a filler primer if necessary to get it glass-smooth.

  2. Cleanliness: Use a grease and wax remover (like Dupli-Color Prep Wipe) before spraying. Fingerprints can show through the metallic flake.

  3. Light Coats: Apply multiple light, “mist” coats rather than one heavy wet coat. This prevents the metallic pigments from “pooling” and becoming blotchy.

  4. Temperature: For the best chemical bond and shine, spray when temperatures are between 60°F (15°C) and 92°F (33°C) with humidity below 60%
