GREEN GEAR OIL 140-GL1
Z148£16.99
Millers Oils Vintage Green Gear Oil 140 GL1 is a high-quality, non-Extreme Pressure (non-EP) mineral-based gear oil designed primarily for vintage and classic vehicles and older industrial machinery.
API GL-1 Specification: This is a pure mineral oil formulation containing no Extreme Pressure (EP) additives. Modern EP gear oils (like GL-4 or GL-5) use sulfur-phosphorus compounds that can chemically attack and degrade “yellow metals” (bronze, brass, copper) often used in vintage bushings, synchromesh gears, and thrust washers. A GL-1 oil is completely safe for these metals.

Typical Applications
-
Vintage & Classic Transmissions: Ideal for veteran, vintage, and classic car gearboxes and axles that specifically dictate a non-EP, high-viscosity oil.
-
Manual Steering Boxes: Often used in older steering boxes where a thick oil is needed to minimize play and prevent leaking.
-
Vintage Machinery / Lathes: Frequently used in legacy workshop machinery (like older lathes or mill gearboxes) that call for an SAE 140 or ISO 460/680 equivalent non-EP fluid.
- AE 140 Viscosity: This is a heavy, high-viscosity monograde oil. Older gearboxes and differentials were engineered with wider tolerances than modern machinery, relying on a thicker oil film to cushion the gears, reduce noise, and prevent leaks through older leather or felt seals.
