Brass Antiquing Solution

The solution should be maintained at a temperature range of 35-40c for the best result.

At lower temperatures, the process is slower, and the recommended immersion time of 5 minutes needs to be extended.

On removal from the solution, the brass should be allowed to dry then lightly abraded to remove some of the coating on proud surfaces. What remains will be within the crevices and surface of the brass revealing an antiqued surface.

Step 1

Components must be free from grease or other contaminants.

Step 2

The metal should be washed and remain wet before immersing in the mixed solution for step 3

Step 3

Immerse in the liquid until brass reaches the required shade of brown. Dilute the liquid 9 to 1 with water. The average dwell times will be, Brass Plated items 3 minutes and Brass 5-10 minutes.

Step 4

Rinse with clean water.

Step 5

Dry the components with either in a dry oven or hot air gun.

Step 6

To obtain a contrasting finish the following methods / machinery can be used:

• Vibratory tumbler
• Typhoon Barrel
• Manual clean with abrasive paper/cloth
• Polish using a rotary bench polisher

Step 7

Lacquer finish if required.
