A steering boot or steering rack boot is a rubber casing used to protect a CV (constant velocity joint) from wear and tear.
Multi size Steering Boot kit includes 2 boots, nylon ties, fitting cone and full instructions. Fitting time is reduced - dismantling is not necessary Easy fit - stretch the boot over track rod end - no realignment needed.
Jack up the vehicle, remove the road wheel. Remove split pin if applicable. Undo nut and free ball joint. The boot should be cut away from the shaft, not pulled over the track rod end. Pull the swivel pin towards you and place cone cover over the pin. Pull larger opening of boot over the cone first and then ease the small opening over the cone and into position. Remove the cone and top up the steering rack with correct lubricant via the small opening. Secure one end of the boot with the fixing clip. Secure the other end with the remaining fixing clip. Refit the track rod end onto the control arm and tighten nut. Renew split pin. Replace the road wheel.
